ICSE Class 8 Maths Tutor โ€” Selina & Beyond

ICSE maths demands more depth. I teach it with the specific rigour your child's board expects โ€” not a diluted CBSE approach.

ICSE Maths Is Harder Than CBSE โ€” And Most Tutors Don't Adjust for It

If your child is in an ICSE school, you already know โ€” the maths is a level above CBSE. More topics, deeper application, harder problem sets. The Selina Concise Mathematics textbook doesn't hold your hand. ML Aggarwal goes even further.

Most tutors teach CBSE methods and hope it works for ICSE students. It doesn't. ICSE Class 8 needs a tutor who understands the specific rigour the board demands โ€” someone who can teach both the "why" and the "how to solve it when the question is twisted."

I teach ICSE Class 8 with ICSE-specific depth. Not a watered-down CBSE approach with an ICSE label.

How I Handle the Extra Rigour ICSE Demands

ICSE Class 8 includes topics that CBSE introduces only in Class 9 โ€” Compound Interest, Sets, Inequalities. This means your child is doing harder maths earlier, and they need a tutor who doesn't teach it as an afterthought.

I teach each ICSE-specific topic with full depth. When we cover Compound Interest, I don't just teach the formula โ€” I show how to derive it, how to handle half-yearly compounding, how to solve the "tricky" application problems that Selina throws in at the end of each exercise.

For Algebraic Identities, I go beyond the four standard identities. ICSE expects students to apply them in factorisation, in simplification, and in problems that combine multiple concepts. I prepare your child for exactly that level.

FAQ

Questions ICSE Parents Ask Me

Do you use Selina or ML Aggarwal?
Both. Selina Concise Mathematics is my primary teaching reference โ€” it aligns directly with the ICSE syllabus and exam pattern. ML Aggarwal provides additional practice, especially for higher-order thinking questions that appear in school exams.
My child's ICSE school goes very fast. Can you keep pace?
Yes. I coordinate with your child's school schedule. If the school is covering Linear Equations this week, we cover it too โ€” but with deeper understanding, not just speed. I also preemptively cover upcoming topics so your child isn't learning them for the first time in school.
ICSE maths seems much harder than CBSE. Is it really?
It is. ICSE covers more topics, goes deeper into each one, and expects application-level problem solving from an earlier age. This is actually an advantage โ€” if taught properly, your child develops stronger mathematical thinking that pays off in Class 9, 10, and beyond.
How are your batches structured for ICSE students?
3 to 5 students per batch, and I keep ICSE and CBSE students in separate batches. ICSE students need a different pace and depth โ€” mixing boards would mean compromising on one.
