IB MYP Mathematics
The IB MYP mathematics framework is unlike any other board. Your child isn't just graded on whether they got the answer right. They're assessed on four criteria โ Knowing, Investigating, Communicating, and Applying โ each demanding a different type of mathematical thinking.
Most tutors from Indian board backgrounds don't understand this. They drill procedures when MYP wants investigation. They give answers when MYP wants mathematical communication. They teach formulas when MYP wants real-world application.

The Four Assessment Criteria
This is the "can you solve it?" criterion. I build this through concept teaching, structured practice, and weekly tests. But in MYP, even Criterion A requires selecting the right mathematical approach โ not just applying a memorised method.
This is where most students struggle. I train your child to observe, predict, describe, and justify mathematical patterns. We practice open-ended investigations where the process matters more than the answer.
MYP wants mathematical communication โ using correct notation, organising work logically, explaining reasoning clearly. I teach your child to write solutions that a marker can follow step by step, using appropriate mathematical language.
Can your child take a real-world problem, model it mathematically, solve it, and reflect on whether the answer makes sense? I use real-life scenarios โ budgets, measurements, data analysis โ to build this skill naturally.
ATL Skills
The IB framework embeds ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills into every subject. In my maths sessions, your child develops thinking skills (analysis, problem decomposition), communication skills (mathematical reasoning), self-management (organising solution steps), and research skills (investigating mathematical patterns).
These aren't add-ons. They're woven into every lesson. When I ask your child to explain their approach before solving, that's communication. When I present a problem without a clear method, that's thinking. When I ask them to check if their answer is reasonable, that's self-management.
