The Pattern

82 Class 8
65 Class 9
48 Class 10

Fixable.

This is the pattern I see most often. A student who was comfortable in Class 8 starts struggling in Class 9 and is in trouble by Class 10. Parents assume Class 10 is just harder. That is only partly true.

The real issue is almost always a gap that opened earlier — in Class 7 or 8 — and has been compounding silently ever since. The Class 10 syllabus did not suddenly become impossible. It is built on foundations that are no longer there.

Class 7

Fractions, decimals, and negative numbers are taught quickly. Some students memorise steps instead of understanding them. It works — for now.

Class 8

Algebra arrives. It depends entirely on fraction fluency and negative number comfort. Students who memorised in Class 7 start struggling, but marks only dip slightly — 82 to 75.

Class 9

The syllabus accelerates. Coordinate geometry, basic trigonometry, and quadratic expressions all assume Class 8 algebra is solid. The dip becomes visible — 75 to 65. Parents start noticing.

Class 10

Board exam year. Trigonometry, quadratics, coordinate geometry, and proofs all hit simultaneously — each one depending on a different Class 7–8 foundation. Marks are now at 48. Panic sets in.

By the time a parent searches “class 10 maths tuition near me,” the gap is usually 2–3 years old. The good news: finding it takes one session. Fixing it takes weeks, not months.

sin 30° = ½

← because ½ is a ratio

Trigonometry fails when ratios are not automatic

I start with fractions. Within two sessions, the trigonometric ratios make sense on their own.

x² + 5x + 6

← because x² = x × x

Factoring fails when multiplication is not fluent

I go back to multiplication tables and algebraic manipulation. Factoring becomes obvious, not memorised.

2x + 3 = 11

← this is just arithmetic

Equations fail when inverse operations are shaky

I rebuild inverse operations from basic arithmetic. The student stops guessing and starts solving.

These are real examples from my classroom. A student who cannot simplify ½ will not understand sin 30° = ½ no matter how many times you repeat it. A student who hesitates at x × x will never factorise fluently. The fix is not more Class 10 practice. The fix is going back to where the gap is.

Is This Your Child?

“Not a maths person”

— what they say about themselves

Usually a confidence problem that started when one topic was skipped in Class 7 or 8.

A+ effort. C result.

— studies hard, marks don't move

Almost always a method problem — studying by repeating, not by understanding.

In class ✓ Gets it
In exam ? Gone

— understands but cannot reproduce under pressure

The concept was understood at surface level but never practiced to the point of automatic recall.

70% → 90%+

— not weak, just not reaching potential

Strong foundation, just needs structured practice and exam-pattern drilling to close the gap.

All four of these are the same problem: a gap in the foundation. Different symptoms, same cause.

What Actually Happens in My Classroom

3–5 30–40 typical

“Every student works. Every student gets checked. Every class.”

10 7

“Back to Class 7. Without hesitation.”

“If your child is in Class 10 and I find the gap started in Class 7, we go back to Class 7. There is no shortcut past a weak foundation. But here is the thing — it takes weeks, not months. Once the right concept clicks, everything built on top of it starts working.”

1 teacher. Every class.

“I teach every session personally. No rotating assistants, no junior tutors, no recorded videos. Your child works with me — the same person who diagnosed the gap, planned the fix, and tracks the progress.”

Class 10 Maths Topics I Cover

Algebra

Polynomials, linear equations, quadratic equations, arithmetic progressions, factorisation

Trigonometry

Trigonometric ratios, identities, heights and distances, applications

Coordinate Geometry

Distance formula, section formula, area of triangles, straight lines

Geometry

Triangles, circles, constructions, similarity, congruence, proofs

Mensuration

Surface areas, volumes, areas related to circles, cylinders, cones, spheres

Statistics & Probability

Mean, median, mode, probability of events, data interpretation

The exact syllabus varies by board. I prepare students based on their specific board's exam pattern, marking scheme, and question style — whether that is CBSE, ICSE, IB, IGCSE, or Cambridge A-Levels.

Before Anything Else: The Diagnostic

I do not start teaching on day one. Every student begins with a 60-minute diagnostic assessment. This is not a quiz and it is not an entrance test. It is a structured session where I find out exactly where your child's gaps are — not in Class 10, but in the foundations underneath it.

Part 1

I Re-Teach a Concept Your Child Already Knows

I pick a topic your child has studied before — not something new. I teach it my way and your child solves problems on it during the session. This is not a test of what they have memorised. It is a live demonstration of how I teach, so you can compare against every other teacher your child has had. On familiar ground.

Part 2

I Trace the Gap

While your child works, I watch how they think. Where do they hesitate? Where do they take shortcuts that will break later? Where is the concept they think they understand but actually do not? By the end of the session, I know exactly which Class 7 or 8 concept is causing today's Class 10 problem.

After the Diagnostic

You leave with a clear picture

  1. 1 The gap map Which specific Class 7–8 concepts are causing today's Class 10 problems. Not a vague “weak in basics” — the actual topics, named.
  2. 2 The fix timeline How many weeks the foundation repair will take before we move to Class 10 syllabus mastery. Parents get a realistic timeline, not a promise.
  3. 3 The decision You decide whether to continue. The diagnostic is standalone — there is no pressure, no auto-enrollment, no “package deal.”

What Parents Have Said

We came to Swastik when my daughter was scoring 54 in Class 10 maths. He spent the first three weeks on Class 8 algebra. We were worried — boards were four months away. She scored 87.

Parent , CBSE Class 10 student

What surprised me was that he re-taught something my son already knew in the first session. My son said “but I know this” and Swastik said “show me.” That one conversation changed everything.

Parent , ICSE Class 10 student

My son was scoring 92 in Class 8 and dropped to 71 in Class 9. Two tuitions later, nothing had changed. Swastik identified the issue in the first session — his algebraic manipulation was entirely memorised. Three months later he scored 89 in his Class 10 pre-boards.

Questions Parents Ask

All major boards — CBSE, ICSE, IB MYP, IGCSE, and Cambridge. The core diagnostic approach is the same: find the gap, fix the foundation, then master the syllabus. I adjust for each board's exam pattern and marking scheme.

Batches are kept to 3–5 students. That size is small enough for every student to work, get checked, and have mistakes corrected during class.

The diagnostic assessment is a paid, standalone 60-minute session. The price is shown in the diagnostic section above.

Yes. Most Class 10 problems I see are foundation problems. The first step is to find the specific gap instead of labelling the student as weak overall.

Yes. In-person, online, and hybrid modes are available. Online works best when the student is ready to write, solve, and show working during class.

Earlier is better, but late is not hopeless. The diagnostic tells us whether the issue is foundation repair, syllabus completion, exam practice, or all three.

The diagnostic takes 60 minutes.
